12.2.16 NYT “CNN’s Coverage of Trump Was Biased, Presidential Candidates’ Aides Say.”
When, because it’s profitable, a “news” organization gives a platform to someone whose statements are false 70% of the time and doesn’t report the falsehood, that company has a major ethical problem. “Fox News” has been nothing but propaganda for years. CNN has been shown to be at least an enabler. In court, the standard is “the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth,” and usually the interests of only a relatively small number of people are involved. We’re now talking about the welfare of millions, if not billions of people. Why can’t a “news” network insist on the same standard? Surely, real-time fact checking shouldn’t be too much to ask.
