The trove of documents allegedly hacked by Russia raises an serious ethical dilemma for the media outlets that report on them. The whole point of releasing them was to get the media to report them as “news.” They are indeed newsworthy. But do the media have any responsibility to resist someone else pulling their strings? Don’t they end up unwittingly do the bidding of forces antithetical to a free press?
